Visualizing English Word Origins blog (Kathryn)

1 Oct

I found a really cool visualization of word roots on a blog today. It shows the etymology of each word in several different passages as well as pie charts and has an example in American literature, British literature, medicine, legal, and sports fields. The majority of words in all cases were from Old English, but the ratio of French, Greek, and Latin roots were much higher in medicine and legal passages. We’ve learned all of this before, but the visualization was helpful and illustrative to me.
